Shopping With Friends…

Do these pants make my butt look big…we’ve all heard it…maybe asked it…maybe been asked…it seems like such a humorous question…has even been the…butt…of many a joke…

However…I would have said…but…but…I just didn’t think I should use the same word so much…even spelled differently…but…I digress

Anyway…although…I’ve kind of snickered at the phrase myself…today…Bertha…is talking to me about…living my truth…again…and…it’s not so funny…

Seems as though…the answer to the question is no laughing matter…honesty is honesty…and while I don’t have to share my honest opinions with anyone…if asked…well…that’s a whole ‘nother story…

Bertha…reminds me of a time from my childhood…my Granny…who was normally a very good cook…made a pot of vegetable soup for me and my sister one night…she asked if we liked it…we didn’t…it just wasn’t good…but…we did what we thought was polite…we said…YES

That could have been that…except that in an attempt to have something we liked at the ready for our visits…she froze the soup…in many…many containers…so…for over a year…anytime we spent the night there…we got…soup…and we had to eat it…we’d said we liked it…

Now…I have to admit…I’m a people pleaser…I never want to hurt anyone’s feelings…it’s very difficult for me to give criticism…well…at least directly to someone’s face…I have been known to whine when they weren’t looking…a lesson for another day

So…back to the pants and the derriere…how do I answer when a friend asks that…and…they really do make her look…as we say in the south…like the broad side of a barn…

I wish I didn’t know the answer to that question…wish I could plead the fifth…wish a lot of things…but…truth is as truth is…

There has to be something between…gulp…no not at all…and…sister if your butt looked any bigger it’d need its own zip code

Something like…well…honestly…it’s not your best look…and…then…hope against hope that she doesn’t try them on in a different color…

That’s why I shop alone…

The Brightest Crayon…

Okay…I admit it…I’m not always the brightest crayon in the box…or maybe…it’s just that sometimes I don’t get out of the box…case in point…my friends Tamy Burns and Kimberly Hughes…authors of…Fateful Night…a novel based on the premise that Marilyn Monroe didn’t die…announced a contest…in honor of Marilyn’s birthday…for the month of August…

It was pretty straight forward…all you had to do was make a comment on a blog post containing your favorite Marilyn quote…I’d seen some of the prizes…they’re pretty cool…I could enter…except…I don’t know any Marilyn quotes…oh well…a prize would have been nice…but…not to be…

I was going to leave it at that…until…Bertha…reminded me…after I went to bed last night…that…I could Google…how could I have forgotten that…so much for good night’s sleep…

First thing this morning…I Googled…and quickly found my favorite quote…actually…Bertha…picked it out…

“Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world.” ~Marilyn Monroe

I copied and pasted it into the comment section…I may not win…but…at least I have a chance…which is the lesson that…Bertha…was reminding me of…we wrote about it first in a story from…Bertha-Size Your Life!…called…Lottery…when…Bertha…explained the difference between…being lucky and having a chance…

Seems as though…I can’t win the lottery if I don’t have a ticket…can’t win a contest if I haven’t entered…can’t be hired for my dream job if I don’t apply…and…the list goes on and on…

Okay…enough blogging for today…this little crayon is getting out of the box…
