Becoming…

I love the still of the morning…before…the world…is awake…

For me…it’s a time of…no demands…the phone isn’t going to ring…there’s no one to ask me to do anything…even the house feels silent…not demanding that I clean…or repair…just letting me be…

So…I step outside…

Where there’s something magical…about the early morning sky…twixt…night and day…as the clouds turn pink from the sun’s arrival…yet the moon…still rules the sky…making it…neither…night…nor…day…

Bertha…says…it reminds her of my life…of transitions…in particular…of those times…that…I am neither…here…nor…there…but…rather…in a place of…becoming

I have to say…that I have traditionally found…this place…to be uncomfortable…unlike the sun and the moon…that appear to savor the beauty of the moment…I’ve wanted to rush through the process…getting to…there…as quickly as possible…but…missing…the beauty…of…becoming

So…now…as I drink my coffee…I contemplate…the silence…the beauty…the becoming…and…I have to agree…it’s a lovely place to be…

Lying Fallow…

For some reason…who forever knows what that isBertha…gave me the phrase…lying fallow…to write about this morning…

Being a farm girl of sorts…I’ve always heard of the expression…with the practice…meaning…that a field is…essentially…allowed to take a break…the premise being…that…repeatedly planting crops in the same spot…depletes the soil of valuable nutrients…which…decreases productivity…

However…knowing…Bertha…I figured there was more to it than that…so…I did what I do best…I…Googled it…of course since it was a farm question…I probably could have just called Mama…but…she wasn’t at home…so…Google…it was…

Anyway…seems there is a bit more to it…than…just not planting a crop for a year or so…as I had remembered…it also involves…continuing to toil the field…and maintain it…not…just…giving it a break…for a time…but actively replenishing it…

Of course…then…Bertha…related it to my life…reminding me…that…it’s not just important for me to…take time off…from my busy routine…it’s important…to…actually do the things that…replenish…me…when I do…

Now…that she’s explained it in these terms…I have to say…spending time in my contemplation chair…lying fallow…which by some accounts…could be considered…lazy…is truly…my most productive time of day…
