Fiction Becomes Truth…

Somewhere…along about 2001…I first read the concept of the power of writing things down…I’m sure that I saw Cheryl Richardson on Oprah…heard her talking about her book…Take Time for Your Life…drove twenty miles to the nearest book store immediately after the show…and started reading it that night…I did that a lot back then

As recommended…I made a list of five things that I wanted…I was as specific as I could be…and that was that…the interesting thing is…within about two months…four of those things had happened…kinda sorta…and…I was living at the beach…with a new job at the exactly salary I’d listed…

I say…kinda sorta…because…none of them were exactly what I had written down…but…they were close…but…the point is…they happened…

Over the next years…I continued to read and hear about the power of writing down my dreams and intentions…and…I have had some remarkable experiences of them happening…kinda sorta

Before…Bertha-Size Your Life!…was published…I spent days…writing about how much I enjoyed writing…how much I loved for people to read my writing…and other positive things about writing…and…as you well know…it happened…

But…I think the most fun experience that I’ve had with it…is about houses…when I first moved back here and wasn’t working outside of writing for a time…I lived in a small rental house…it was adequate…but not quite what I wanted…so I started writing about my dream house…including having a bedroom window facing East so I could watch the sunrise…and having a view of water…it wasn’t long before my cousin invited me to move into my great aunt and uncle’s home place…after some painting and elbow grease…it was a great little house for me…with a bedroom window facing East and lots of sunrises…but…no view of water…

Or so I thought…a couple of days after I moved in…I happened to look out the kitchen window…and there…nestled in the pasture…I noticed it…a small farm pond…my view of the water…I had to laugh…

After a while…I really wanted a place of my own…with a modern kitchen…central heating and cooling…so…once again…I started writing about it…

Interestingly…circumstances worked around to provide me with the money for the down payment…and I found the absolutely perfect house…kinda sorta…as with all houses…it has a few things I would change…but…I’m happy here…

Bertha…is reminding me of this…because it’s a technique I haven’t used in a while…I haven’t been putting my dreams down on paper and gotten really clear about them…I haven’t given them that time and energy…and…I agree…it’s time to do that again…

But…I’m pretty sure I’m not going to write about houses anymore…I’m tired of moving…

  1. Jane, your thoughts are inspirational; really about making change in a way that you want and controlling your destiny within your means. . . and with a sense of humor! You go, girl!
