And the Grim Reaper Comes to Call…

Bertha…showed up today…in a skeleton mask….wearing a long, hooded, black robe…carrying a scythe…at least…I hope it was…Bertha…and considering her nudges lately…I’m pretty sure it was her…either that…or someone was really early for Halloween…

She’s been talking to me about change…and…how all change is actually a death…but…that contrary to my previous beliefs…death isn’t necessarily a bad thing…it’s just the first step of change…of getting to where I want to be…

As an example…she said…before I can lose weight…my old eating and exercise habits have to die…my old ways of relating to food as comfort…have to die…

And…I know that is true…I just hadn’t considered them as…death…until now…

She’s saying that autumn…represents a time of death…no matter how prettily dressed the falling leaves are…they are dying…to make way for new leaves in the spring…and…just like with leaves…there is often a gap between…the death…and the rebirth…a time of nurturing and rest…the decaying leaves actually fertilize the soil for the new leaves to come…just as my dying habits strengthen and fertilize my new way of living…

An interesting concept…one that I understand on many levels…but that I believe will continue to evolve for me over the next few months…as I seem to be in a time of transition in so many areas of my life…

I will be curious to see what happens…each time the Grim Reaper…comes to call…

  1. I can see the leaves falling outside my window, falling away like old habits that no longer serve. What a great concept on death! The Grim Reaper usually gets a bum rap, you redeemed him with this idea that not all deaths are bad.
Thanks for this positive perspective to start the day!

    • Thanks for your comment, Aries. I love the image of the leavings falling like old habits that no longer serve…beautifully stated…thank you for giving me that!
