Back to School…

A pedi-party…better than a pity party any day! ~Bertha

It’s official…what not so long ago loomed before me as an endless summer…has quickly dwindled to the equivalent of a long weekend…only two short days separate me from…that four letter word…work

Now…I don’t expect you to feel sorry for me…I never felt compassion for those in the education system who complained about going back to school in the fall…when I had toiled away all summer…with or without a short break…

But…

This is different…this is me…and…when it’s moi…it’s always different…

The truth is…it doesn’t matter how much I whine…or…drag my feet…my days of sleeping in…if you call five o’clock in…are over…like it or not…work…here I come…

It’s been a whirlwind summer…visits with my daughters and granddaughters…book promotions…writing…book promotions…writing…naps…book promotions…writing…do we see a pattern there…these are the things that I love to do…and I honestly got a lot accomplished…even saw…Bertha…hit bestselling status on Amazon in two categories…and…I ate a lot of garden fresh tomatoes…who could ask for more…

But…those days are coming to a close…and days of boo-boos and tummy aches are upon me…along with the paperwork that accompanies them…now…in all fairness to my job…my school…and my kids…I do love my job…it’s rewarding and challenging…and I am grateful to have it…it’s just that given the choice and finances…I’d write fulltime…

So…what am I going to do with my last couple of days…about what I’ve done all summer…maybe throw in a bike ride…and definitely a pedicure…‘cause…Bertha…says that all the dragging of feet…has mine looking ragged…

  1. Always a fun and lighthearted read. I feel your plight. While hubby was working on is EDS, he worked as a teacher. Whoo-hoo! Those were the days… And then, he graduated and became the school administrator…there went those fun summers, winter and spring breaks, holidays. Now he has his doctorate and has switched positions and works six days a week… I just said to him the other day. Wouldn’t you like to be a teacher again?

But…I feel for you as a teacher. I could never be a teacher, a police office (hubby’s previous career), or anything in the medical field. It takes a special person to do your job, Carroll. So, thank you! I appreciate teachers. I could never do it! Enjoy your remaining days. Oh, and the pedicure to. No doubt it is one of the great luxuries in life.

    • Carmen…thanks for your comments…I actually hit two of your no-can-do list…I’m the school nurse…I don’t think I could be a teacher, either. They really have a tough job! I sort of did my career in reverse…had the nursing administration jobs earlier…now loving the slower pace and schedule. Hope your hubby gets some time off for good behavior…that schedule doesn’t sound fun at all!
