To Slack or Not to Slack

I really don’t have a firm grasp on my writing this morning…so…I’ve done what I do best…procrastinated getting started…checking email…returning tweets…visiting with Facebook…that kind of thing…

I was feeling a bit guilty…a bit like I was slacking…until…Bertha…bounced in…pointing out…there was no reason to feel guilty…my activities were actually just distractions…

Well…duh…that’s the point…they were distractions that kept me from doing what I needed to be doing…

Her retort was quite interesting…at least to me who was apparently slacking…sometimes…distractions…are just the thing to turn off my left brain…so that my right brain…can do the writing…

Hmmm…I have to think about that for a minute…and I realize that she is right on…as usual…that when I’m stuck…if I leave it for a bit…and do something else…the answer usually comes to me…

Besides that…I was able to do some of my correspondence for the day…and…I saw a picture of my longtime friend’s new granddaughter…soooo cute…and…the blog is written…

So…maybe…just maybe…I wasn’t such a slacker after all…

  1. Great post Jane.

I think we get so absorbed into things that we forget to take the time to breathe.

Recently I have enhanced my songwriting by writing 4 lines an hour. I found that I lost interest easy if I try to sit and write a song in one sitting.

The minimal time given to songwriting gives me the ability to display my slacker tendencies haha.

Thank you for sharing this post.

    • Thanks for your comment. I love that you are writing more…by…writing…Less…in a way. I think it’s really easy to develop the mindset that you have to be sitting in front of the computer even if nothing is coming at the moment. I know I used to feel that way…it was too easy to not have a life. Thanks for dropping by!
