It’s a Dandelion Life…

DandelionsFor the last several days…I’ve been noticing the pretty little yellow flowers growing on the empty lot next door…AKA…dandelions…now…I know…dandelions get a bad rap…I’ve been known to rant at a few myself when they move on my side of the property line…

But…for all of my adult sensibility of a weed-free lawn…never gonna happen at my house…there’s something about a fluffy dandelion puffball…that I can’t resist…

I have to…make a wish…and…BLOW

I’ve been watching the little crop next door…wondering when I could start…wishing…so…this morning…I was shocked to see…no yellow blooms when I stepped on the porch to welcome the day…

Now…I knew they hadn’t been mowed…or dug…so…what happened to them…well…a quick Google search revealed…that they close at night…something about preserving their nectar when the bugs weren’t around to pollinate…and surely enough…they are all back this morning…

I was a bit surprised…how could I never have known that…I mean…I’ve seen a lot of dandies in my lifetime…how could I have missed that they close at night…

Bertha…was all too happy jump in with the answer…because…I’d never paid attention…I just either saw them or didn’t without giving it a second thought…

She says the same thing applies to other areas of my life…reminding me of driving down a familiar road…and seeing a house that I’ve never noticed before…making friends with someone I’ve supposedly known all my life but never realized how much we had in common…

She says that while…sometimes it’s about being distracted and unaware…quite often it’s about timing…

So…I guess the timing was just right this morning…for me to learn more about dandelions…and friendships…oh…look…there’s a puffball…think I’ll go make a wish…
