Tidying…

I decided to tidy the kitchen table this morning…as my coffee brewed…oh…it wasn’t a huge mess…just a box of tooth picks…some glue…the camera…an empty cake plate that needed washing…and…and…and…

Okay…it was a huge mess

Well…seriously…not really in the realm of things…but…the thought went through my mind…of…how easy it would be…to just leave the things where they were…and…continue to add to them…a store ad here…a paid bill there…until…one day…I wouldn’t be able to see the surface of the table…or…the table itself for that matter…maybe it would even collapse under the weight of it all…

Tidying it…only took a couple of minutes…I was rather proud of myself…and…thought…that was that…however…it seems as though…Bertha…didn’t think so…

No…she said the table reminded me of my life…thankfully it had been long enough that I could pour a cup…or two…of that coffee…as I settled in for the explanation…

She said…my kitchen table…is a lot like my mind…a blank slate so to speak…and…that I have the tendency…to clutter it up…with a negative thought here…a little worry about the future there…then before I know it…there’s a stack of regrets about the past…and a huge pile of despair about the present…

Just like the clutter collecting on the table…she said…it happens so innocently…that I don’t even notice it happening…until it’s a big mess…

Thankfully…according to…Bertha…there’s an easy solution for both…take care of things…as they happen

Put things away as I use them…sounds simple enough…

Deal with life as it happens…a bit more complicated…but…still simple…just a regular practice…prayer…meditation…contemplation…forgiveness…and…most of all…love…

Hmmm…well…the table is clean…guess I’ll go to the contemplation chair…and tidy up my mind…
