I’ve confused a lot of people in my lifetime…by…not saying exactly what I meant…using body language that didn’t match my words…so…I guess it was bound to happen…at some point…I would confuse…Amazon…
I didn’t mean to do it…it all started out fairly straight forward…I would order a book…or two…and…in a few weeks…they’d send me an email…with suggestions of other books that I might like…and…quite often I would like them enough to order a couple…then…Christmas came along…and my daughters sent me…Wish Lists…for their families…and…like a good mother…I ordered several items from each list…
So…I started getting emails…accessories that I might like for my Wii…which of course I didn’t have…and…then…books that only a son-in-law would read…and…all the latest…Curious George…and…Fancy Nancy…adventures…
But…even with that…it was manageable…I knew which books were mine…I knew which books were theirs…and the ratio that I ordered…mine versus theirs…meant they were mostly mine…
Then…about six months ago…I joined a writers group…and…many of the writers were offering their books as a promotional free download on Kindle…this helps their ratings…and…gives them kudos…for the number of downloads they have during that time…of course…we were encouraged…to download and promote their books…
At first…I struggled with the concept…Bertha and I have spent a lot of time…working on living my truth…and…honestly…many of the books…weren’t of a genre that I would read…or enjoy…I wanted to support my fellow authors…but…how could I promote them to my friends…when I wouldn’t read them…myself…
Bertha…gently reminded me…that my reading taste…is a bit…unusual…I prefer to say…eclectic…and…just because…I don’t read about vampires…or…steamy romances…or…a combination of the two…doesn’t mean…that…they aren’t the hottest genres around…
She…also said…that…I can promote a book…without…endorsing it…simply…by telling my friends…here’s a free book…and…let them look at it and decide if it interests them or not…hmmm…I could do that…and…I’ve had many friends thank me for passing along the links…
But…I also go a step farther…I download them…I mean…they are free…they don’t cost me anything…I don’t have to read them…if they don’t totally interest me…and…I’ve helped out an author…it seemed like a perfect win-win…
Except…
Except…for Amazon…and their formula…for…recommending my future reading material…so…now…I get an email…every so often…with some pretty obscure books…
Like…the following description…
Curious George…and…Fancy Nancy…are boxing on the Wii…when…they are attacked by vampires…unfortunately…the Man in the Yellow Hat…is in an alternate universe…involved in an erotic tryst…at the time…thankfully…a werewolf…comes to the rescue…destroying the vampires…and leaving behind…a copy of…the latest inspirational book…Bertha-Size Your Zombie!…
Yep…I’m gonna download that one…just as soon as it’s…free…and…I’ll be sure to let you know…
Jane
LMBO! It is SO true! I love it! Great blog!
Thanks for stopping in RaeAnne…I’m thinking I might just write that book…what do you think?
Sounds like a bestseller to me!
Thanks, Peggy…I’ll send you the first autographed copy…LOL!
Hehe you’re funny! I like that you are getting recommendations for Curious George! Oh dear, Amazon itself is curious…
Thanks, Christy! Yes, my granddaughters read and watch a lot of Curious George he has been a longtime favorite.
OMG!!! Too funny Jane!!!!!!!!
Thanks, Arlene! Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Words to live by, rock on!
Thank you so much Madison…have a wonderful weekend!
This is too funny Jane! I have done the same thing, however I love all those types of books, actually I read just about anything if it fits my mood at the time. However I do love the way you think ahead, maybe a short story about Bertha running away from the energy vampires who are sucking away at her resolve to live life as she wishes 🙂 I love reading your blogs!! They always make me laugh or chuckle, heck smile especially when I need it most, or like today added a LARGER than life smile to my already growing out of my face smile 🙂
Rebbekah…you might be on to a story idea for Bertha…hmmm… I’m glad you enjoy the blogs…knowing that they make you smile…makes me smile…so now…we’re all smiling!
Oh, too funny. I guess I’d better not order anything else from Amazon if it’s not for me. I can say that until I have grandkids because my sons don’t want books anymore.
Thanks for visiting Sher…it has definitely been entertaining to see my recommendations changing over the last few months! I’m off to visit your blog…have a great evening!
Jajaja… Good one Jane… You are so witty 🙂
Amazon: OMG…
A friend of mine, Cat Forsley, has published a poetry book called “100 days of love”. The poems were really naïve and absolutely symbolic…
However they flagged up her book as “EXPLICIT”…
Imagine if it was an erotic book or something like that, what would they do?… (Burn it?) The Old Inquisition of the XV is back I guess ( ..)
And yes > they are often confused!
Cheers & have a blessed sunday Jane,
Aquileana 🙂
Oh…they do get confused Aquileana…and…it’s hard to get them to straighten it out…but…I hope Cat gets off the ‘naughty’ list! Thanks for stopping by…have a wonderful week!
