The Winds That Blow…

Last night…just after dark…there was a lovely…lightning display…which started well before the rain…and…I knew what I had to do…sit on the porch…

I know…probably not the smartest thing to do…but…there was no thunder…so…it felt safe…and…besides…the wind was blowing…and…Bertha…can’t resist the wind that blows…before the storm…

I asked…Berthaas she danced under the flashing sky…what it is about the wind…that mesmerizes…her…that always pulls her outside…and…me…along with her

Her answer…was both…familiar…and…surprising…it’s the…movement…it’s the ending…of…what is…and…the beginning…of…what will be…AKA…change…that intrigues her…

I whined a bit…but…change…is…hard…change…is…painful…

She laughed…and…reminded me…that so is…staying where I am…being stagnant…is hard…is painful…and…it really isn’t…safe…like I sometimes try to tell myself it is…

She pointed to the trees…swaying…their leaves in a flurry…to the beauty of the natural order of things…reminding me…that when…change…blows through my life…I can…sway…or…I can…break…it’s a choice…I get to make…

And…then…the rains came down…and…she danced even more…

Bertha’s Song…

Some of my writing friends are participating in a blog tour…the subject of the tour this week…sparked my interest…is there a song that describes your book…so…even though I didn’t participate in the tour…I knew the answer…and…I wanted to share…

The song that best describes…Bertha…to me…is…drumroll please…Change Your Mind…by Sister Hazel…

If you’ve read…Bertha…you know…the chorus…is the message that she is continually giving me…

If you want to be somebody else,
If you’re tired of fighting battles with yourself
If you want to be somebody else
Change your mind

And…to me…the following verse…describes…Bertha…to a tee…she truly finds something to be joyful about…every day…

Have you ever danced in the rain
Or thanked the sun
Just for shining, just for shining
Or the sea?
Oh no, take it all in
The world’s a show
And yeah, you look much better,
Look much better when you glow

Today…at my house…she’s dancing in the rain…I’d join her…but…I really don’t want to get wet…although…I may sit on the porch and watch…she’s still working on me…and…yeah…I know…I’ll look much better…when I glow…

Oh…and…if you haven’t read…Bertha…well…today would be a good day to do that…and…maybe…listen to a little…Sister Hazel…while you’re at it…
