Just a Burp in the Road…

The end is in sight…of the school year…that is…and…I have to admit…I’m getting overwhelmed…yes…I’m excited about the prospects of…two months off…but…between here and there…there are a lot of details to be addressed…closing out this year…getting ready for next year…things that can’t be done…until a specific time…and then…they have to be done quickly…

Oh…and did I mention…that I’ll be gone on field trips…three out of five days next week…and…one of those is an overnight…and not even for my school…

Just as the words…what was I thinking…I must be out of my mind…why did I volunteer to do that…start to buzz around in my head…

Bertha…appears…

Reminding me to…focus…

Reminding me…it’s like eating an elephant…take the first bite…then…take the next one…burp…take another…

The visual helps…an elephant sitting in my office…that’s exactly what it feels like…and…a plan starts to develop…things will get done…letters will go home…medications will be picked up…charts will be filed…

Burp

Jane

PS…Oh…and she says it’s the same for all areas of my life…bite…burp…bite…rinse and repeat…

What Storms May Come…

Today…we are planning for bad weather…April in Tornado Alley is like that…the plan is to go to school as usual…and dismiss by 11:30…or sooner if the front moves in quicker than expected…for some outside of the area…it may seem like…overkill…but for those of us who have lived through years of destruction…it just plain makes sense…

Two years ago…an area school was destroyed by a series of F4/5 tornados that ripped through our communities…school had been dismissed earlier that morning…a few years back…a tornado hit a school in South Alabama…they weren’t so fortunate…the nurse from that school spoke at a conference I attended…what she went through broke my heart…I certainly hope to never experience such things…I refuse to even imagine digging through rubble looking for my students…but…I did make emergency preparations based on her recommendations…

I have a plan…

But…like a lot of things in life…I hope it’s a plan that I never have to implement…and…for once…Bertha…is in perfect agreement…
