Surprise!

The interview yesterday was a big success…although I must admit…I got the station name wrong…it was actually HNN…Hubbard Network News…rather than HSN…it was the first day for this particular news team to present the news…and they did a stellar job…

Timing…as they say is…everything…and the interview coincided with a writing competition that grades 4-6 are participating in…the highlight of my day was when a student came to me and told me about the book she’s writing…a really cool sounding mystery…

It honestly made my day…to see a little writer getting excited about her characters…and knowing where her story was going before it actually gets there…I did tell her to expect some surprises along the way…stories have a way of taking on a life of their own…

Bertha…says…that’s a lot like my life…I think I know where it is going…but there are always some surprises along the way…just to keep things interesting…

Hmmm…

He Ain’t Heavy…

I have a lot of rules…some important…some…not so much…some I stick to like glue…others…not so much…but…one that I pretty much adhere to…is…I don’t give money to kids at school…

Now…I’m not a total meanie…I will give them snack if they don’t have money for break…I keep cheese crackers and juice in my office…beyond that…I keep my money to myself…

Just this week…I was walking down the hall…and two Elementary students asked me for money…one wanted a quarter for candy…I said…NO…didn’t even feel guilty…the other…asked for seventy-five cents…there was a basketball game they could attend for a dollar…he had a dollar…but his younger brother didn’t…he didn’t want to go if his brother couldn’t…

I’ve seen them together…they are very close…he is very protective of his little brother…I knew without a doubt that he would have missed the game if his brother couldn’t go…and…he probably would have even given his money to his brother…letting him go…instead…

So…I broke my rule…I gave him a dollar…which was a small price to pay for the warm and loving feeling that he gave me…

PS…Bertha…says there are only two rules for me to live by…live my truth…and…beyond that…there are no rules…
