Off Season…

Growing up…I dressed by several rules…among my favorites…

Don’t wear white before Easter…or…after Labor Day…and don’t wear winter clothes in between

Today…I’m breaking the rules by wearing a sweater…not the light weight cotton variety that is acceptable in mid-May and actually throughout the summer…but…a really warm…snuggly one…one that I wore all winter…one that will really keep me toasty…on this cold and rainy day…

And…as warm and snuggly as I feel…I feel an equal amount of discomfort…what will people think…

Enter…Bertha

Hello…people will think that it’s cold outside…the high is supposed to be sixty…with no sun in sight…people will think my blue sweater matches my eyes…people will think about a million other things…none of which pertain to my choice of clothing for the day

Of course…she says it also relates to my life as well…reminding me…that people usually have too much of their own stuff going on…to spend any time thinking about me or mine…even if I want them to

Hmmm…I know she’s right…and…as reassuring as it sounds…somehow…it doesn’t make me feel much better…I mean…really…nobody’s thinking about moi

Picture Imperfect…

I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened. ~ Mark Twain

Yesterday was picture day at school…you probably remember those days…everyone comes to school…scrubbed and polished…wearing their best outfit…

Well…I’m no exception…at least not this time…while I usually don’t enjoy having my picture taken…I’ve lost weight…so…I thought a new picture might be just the thing…

I started getting ready for it the day before…by washing my hair…which usually looks better on the second day…then yesterday morning…I painstakingly selected my outfit…discarding three or four before finding just the right thing…carefully applied my makeup…and I was all set…

Picture perfect…

The only thing is…I never went to get my picture made…I was busy…no one ever called for me…I didn’t feel good…spring pictures aren’t mandatory…the dog ate my homework…and the list goes on…for whatever reason…I never went…

Bertha…laughed and reminded me of Mr. Twain’s quote…one of her favorites…as she pointed out…this is so true about my life…most of the things I fret and worry about…never happen…and…all the fretting…just gets in the way of enjoying my life at the time…

So about my picture…oh well…maybe next year…fall pictures are mandatory…hmmm…wonder what I should wear…
