My neighbor’s tree crossed the line…during the recent macroburst that hit our area…falling across the privacy fence…which I now know doesn’t work for trees…and perched precariously in my shrub bank…
I counted my blessings…it could have fallen in a different direction and hit my house…it could have crushed my fence…the damage could have been so much worse…my neighbors had numerous trees down in their yards…I probably would have as well…except…I don’t have any trees…well…except for the newcomer…who is slated to leave again today…
I was fortunate…the amount of the cleanup is well under my homeowner’s deductible…I didn’t even need to file a claim…
Which makes me think…less than a week before…the water regulator valve on my icemaker malfunctioned…I opened the freezer while making breakfast to find water pouring out of the ice bucket…I turned off the icemaker but the water continued…so I pulled out the fridge and shut off the water valve…cleaned up the water that had gotten in the bottom of the freezer compartment…but hadn’t leaked anywhere else…I called the repairman…
I counted my blessings…it could have been so much worse…it could have started when I was at work…or during my recent vacation…it could have leaked out…it could have ruined my wood floor…I could have been paying the insurance deductible…on top of the repair bill…
A few weeks ago…I was doing errands the day before leaving for that vacation…when my car didn’t want to start…yes…it was cranky when cranking…I drove to the local automotive store…and…just as I suspected…I needed a new battery…which I purchased and they gladly installed for me…while I sat in their air conditioned building and watched through the window…
I counted my blessings…it could have happened when I was out of town…I could have been stranded somewhere…I could have had to call a tow truck…I could have been quite a distance from an automotive shop…I could have…well…you get the picture…it could have been much worse…
Hmmm…I’m thinking…counting my blessings…is getting expensive…
But…Bertha…says I should do the math…it’s…R<R+D…where the repair cost is always less than the sum of the repair cost plus the deductible…
And…she’s right…I haven’t spent nearly the amount of even one deductible…it could have been a lot worse…
So…
I’m back to counting my blessings…one incident at a time…but wait…incidents come in threes don’t they…I am finished for a while…right…
Now…that would be a blessing…
Jane
Nice one Jane! Something we need to do every day…to make a dedicated decision to do it!! Thanks for the reminder! =) Denise
Thank you Denise…counting our blessings is probably one of the best things we can do for our overall wellbeing!
I have a dear friend I don’t get to see as often as I would like, but she’s always constant in her friendship…therein lies my blessing. Love you, Janie!
