Hmmm…Bertha…wanted to talk about snakes today…and I reminded her of the words made famous by Jim Stafford…I don’t like spiders and snakes…she wasn’t deterred that easily…not that I thought she would be…we are talking…Bertha…
Seems as though…it’s actually growth and healing that she wants to talk about…it’s just that snakes are such a great example of that…that in order to grow…they have to completely shed their old skin…and…there’s a new one underneath…just waiting to take them where they need to go next in life…knowing…that they will be shedding that one as well when it no longer fits…
She then shifts the analogy to…boo-boos…and scabs…another lovely visual…but she reminds me…that the scab forms…to allow time for the new skin to grow underneath…it is never meant to be permanent…for healing to be complete…it has to come off…much like the snake’s skin…
Of course…she is relating this to my life…to those areas where I am still growing…healing…reminding me that…it is an ongoing process…I’ll shed my…skin…many more times…will have many more…scabs…covering ancient boo-boos…that need to come off…it doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong…doesn’t mean I’m making mistakes…even though I do…it’s just part of the growth process…
I don’t have to dig too deep to know what she’s talking about…tis the season…a time of wonderful…and…painful memories…it was the best of times…it was the worst of times…
She’s saying that it’s time to shed…the old memories…and…yes…even some of the good ones…that lead to unrealistic expectations…and…embrace the newness of what is…letting my new skin take me where I’m ready to go…
Think I’ll spend some time in the contemplation chair…working it all out…or…off…as the case may be…

I love this, Jane.
Thanks, Peggy…I have to say that it took some twists and turns as I wrote it…how does that happen? Bertha is so sneaky!
