Today…I have an important interview scheduled…no…Oprah hasn’t come out of retirement to redeem herself for not having me on her show…although I really think she should…and…you probably won’t see me on TV…or hear me on the radio…but…in my mind…it’s one of the most important interviews I will ever get to do…
Today…I will be interviewed by the HSN…Hubbard School News…team…and the show will be broadcast…to our approximately 300 students…
I love interviewing with kids…they ask the absolute best questions ever…sometimes the ones that adults would like to ask…but are a bit too politically correct to do so…and some that can only come from the mind of a child…
Bertha…reminded me of a visit with Ms. LouAllen’s Third Grade…several years ago…and the great questions the kids asked…about writing…getting published…the illustrations…money…that kind of thing…but…the one question that still stands out in my mind…
Are you famous…
Now…how to answer that…this was way before social media made…Bertha…known in certain circles around the world…I’d sold some books…yes…but…was I famous…
I remember answering the question…or…Bertha…probably took that one…by explaining that although if you asked someone on the street in New York City about me…about…Bertha…they probably would have no idea who you were talking about…but…yes…I was famous…because I believed in myself…and…that it is believing in yourself that makes you become famous…not the other way around…
I used the example of the president…it was W at the time…saying that…yes…he is famous…but…he had to believe in himself in order to become famous…he had to believe he could finish Third Grade…he had to believe he could go to college and graduate…he had to believe he could be Governor…and…he had believe that he could be elected President…he had to believe he could do the job…all of that belief…came before he became famous…
And…I went on to say…that each of them…had the ability to believe in his or herself…and…accomplish what they wanted to in life…becoming famous…if not to the whole world…at least in their own neck of the woods…
And…that’s what I hope to get across in today’s interview…wish me luck…
Jane
What an opportunity!!! How blessed you are Bertha! er… I mean Jane. Something you say today will be remembered tomorrow forever! Good luck social buddy!
Mary…it was truly one of the most incredible things I’ve ever gotten to do. I’ll probably blog about it tomorrow. Thanks for your continued support!
Now that is some wise advice. Congratulations on the interview to both of you! Believing in yourself can be the hardest thing, but the most rewarding with all the nay sayers.
How true, Misty. Sometimes I think I could do so well in a ‘vacuum’ but what fun would that be?!
This is good advice for us grown-ups too, Jane. Thanks for reminding me. My belief has been pooping out lately.
Linda…I have to be reminded of it myself…seems I forget it also applies to me! Thanks for visiting!
