I’ve heard the expression so many times…be careful what you wish for…actually…I usually hear it in…Elmer Fudd’s voice…be…vewy…vewy…careful…
Interestingly…I just had an old wish come true…after over 20 years…of wishing it…and…forgetting it…
When my girls were in school…their classes made an overnight trip to a local educational center…Bear Creek…my sister’s school faculty also went on an overnight retreat there…it always sounded like so much fun…I wanted to go…I wished to go…but…alas…with my work schedule…it didn’t happen…
So…I was quite surprised…when circumstances worked around recently…sending me to none other than…Bear Creek…with a group of kids from a neighboring school…
Bertha…immediately pointed out the poignancy of it…that I was finally getting to go to Bear Creek…reminding me of that wish so many years ago…and…yes…I agreed…it was pretty cool that it happened…and I anticipated it with mixed feelings…I didn’t know anyone from the school…there’s always so much to do at the end of school…I really needed to be in my office…and…the list could go on and on…
But…I put on the big girl panties…and I went…
After we go there…we found out that the center is closing at the end of the month…which really hammered home the fact…that this was indeed a wish fulfillment trip…now or never…kind of thing…
Bertha…says it is a reminder…never to give up on my wishes…that even though I can’t see them anymore…don’t think about them anymore…they are still there…quietly being worked out…and at just the right moment…they will appear…
Somehow…that is both extremely…comforting…and…scary…as I try to remember…what all did I wish for…

PS…for the record…it was a good trip…not one that I’d want to make every year…but…it had its moments…moments…that I will always cherish…
