Pineapple…hot off the clippers! |
Spread the love
I ran into my hairdresser tonightā¦okayā¦I didnāt really run into her like with the car or anythingā¦I just saw her at an eventā¦geezā¦you are picky todayā¦
Anywayā¦Iām really a week past needing a cutā¦Iām sure she was aware of my shagginessā¦but she never said a wordā¦sheās nice like thatā¦
In fact there are a lot of things I like about herā¦tops on the list is the way she cuts my hairā¦except for that one head shaving she gave me before my surgery last yearā¦she said I looked like a pineappleā¦and yesā¦I asked for itā¦but I digressā¦
I also really appreciateā¦that she never makes snide remarks about my grayā¦
And we arenāt talking a strand hereā¦a stray hair thereā¦weāre talking full head ofā¦ālooks like Mama on Mamaās Familyāā¦grayā¦
Iād like to say that I am one of those womenā¦who decided to age gracefullyā¦to be exactly the way the good Lord made meā¦but that aināt exactly soā¦
Iām scrapyā¦I put up a fightā¦
I saw the first gray strays in my early thirtiesā¦I highlighted with a vengeanceā¦in my fortiesā¦it took the heavy-duty all over stuffā¦the only problem wasā¦my hair really didnāt take to color very wellā¦
Iād spend an hour or so in the salonā¦getting it just the perfect shade of light brownā¦only to have gray temples and a strange shade of orangish-gold everywhere else within a weekā¦
Iām also blessed with rapidly growing hairā¦which was truly a blessing when I look liked a pineappleā¦on the other handā¦I always had those bright, shining rootsā¦AKAā¦it didnāt take a hairdresser to knowā¦did I or didnāt Iā¦everyone knew that I didā¦and I needed toā¦
Soā¦a couple of years agoā¦after careful considerationā¦I took the plungeā¦I went grayā¦
Honestlyā¦most of the time Iām happy with the resultsā¦
But if the truth were toldā¦I would rather have light brown hairā¦
Iād rather look like Iām thirtyā¦Iād rather weigh lessā¦sag lessā¦ache lessā¦just to start the listā¦
Unfortunatelyā¦the truth of the matter isā¦I look like a fifty-somethingā¦I need to lose a fewā¦okayā¦a bunchā¦that skin aināt going to be taunt againā¦and the achesā¦oh wellā¦thatās why they make heating padsā¦
Butā¦you knowā¦Iām happyā¦Iām content with my lifeā¦I like who I amā¦I like how I amā¦gray hair and allā¦the pounds, wrinkles, and achesā¦I deal withā¦itās all part of being meā¦of growing olderā¦and hopefully wiserā¦
Maybe I am becoming one of those women who decided to age gracefully after allā¦who knewā¦

I love your gray hair and think it makes you look "Marilyn" like…as far as aging gracefully, I believe that begins with a good heart and girl, you've got the goodest one. (As my granddaughter says).
Truth be told, you are more beautiful than ever too!
Awww…Queenie and Edie…you say the sweetest things…thank you so much…I think ya'll are just wearing off on me…
