Sometimes…I amaze myself…or…disamaze myself…as the case may be. Recently…all the spotlights in the kitchen went out…and because I was concerned at the cost of replacing them…visions of hundred-dollar bulbs danced through my head…I popped in regular lightbulbs. Well…you might guess…these didn’t last very long…and they didn’t put out as much light. So…last week…I bit the bullet…I grabbed my life savings…and went to the hardware store…carrying a bulb along for reference.
I was pleasantly surprised…to find the bulbs were cheap…so cheap in fact…that I bought extras…so that in five years when it happens again…I’d be prepared.
Bertha…laughed at me…of course she did…who wouldn’t…I had fretted… worried…spent a few months in a dimly lit kitchen…and wasted some regular 60 watt bulbs…because I was certain that it would cost too much to replace them…instead…of…checking to see how much they cost.
She reminded me that I could have called the hardware store to see how much they cost…I could have Googled them if I was too timid to call…but instead…I just assumed…
And…we all know what that got me…
I tried to argue with her…they were so big…they were so pretty…they were so bright…they had to be expensive…what was the point in checking when my budget was challenged…
She wouldn’t have it…saying that it was like a lot of other things in life…when I assumed things would be a certain way…so I didn’t even try…holding myself back in the process…
I hate when she’s right…but she is…I have been guilty of doing that…but mostly…now…I don’t do that anymore…and…then…a light bulb shoots…
Busted!
Jane
You’ve been AWOL, and I missed you, hope you and Bertha are well.
Oh…thanks for noticing Joy. Summer vacation is supposed to mean that I have more time…but I seemed to have gotten out of my routine. And I’ve been involved in a project. Bertha is alive and well and kicking up her heels as usual! 😉
