Spread the love

Continuing the theme of connections… it may be a long year! Today I’m focusing on… you probably guessed it… my connection with my home. I initially thought it was my connection with my house… but… Bertha… said… no… it’s with my home. And… there is… a subtle difference.

When I’m thinking… house… I’m detached. It’s just a building that I live in. When I’m thinking… home… I’m connected. It’s part of me… and I care about it… and in its own way… it cares about and protects me.

So… I’m embarrassed to say… that I have done way more than my fair share of complaining about my home. Focusing on what it doesn’t have… instead of what it does… or… even better… can have.

Case in point… I love a screened porch… and I finally had one for about a year… then I moved here. And… I knew it didn’t have a screened porch when I bought it. I also knew that it would cost way more than I wanted to invest to add one. But… I kept whining about it… at least to Bertha. Finally…

Well… I hadn’t thought about that. But… when I did… I realized that… I could have a screen door added to the back door. And I know… it’s totally not the same thing… but… it still makes me happy. I know the cats will love it in warmer weather. I’m also having a couple of windows… that were painted shut before I was born… made serviceable and rescreened. Voila… fresh air without the bugs… right in the comfort of my own home.

So… Bertha says… anytime I’m focusing on what I can’t have… I can turn it around by asking… what can I have? Hmmm… I can’t have a new car… but… I can take mine to be detailed… I can even get them to squirt it with that new car smell… but I hate that… so I won’t. But… you get the drift. It truly works for almost anything. Give it a try. Leave a comment and let us know how it worked for you.

PS… and my sweet home is also getting functional doorknobs and a little plumbing on the side… as well. Her name is Addie Blue Oakley… and she’s 133 years young. Yeah… we’re pretty connected already. But… just like… Jello… there’s always room for more connection.
