For some reason…who forever knows what that is…Bertha…gave me the phrase…lying fallow…to write about this morning…
Being a farm girl of sorts…I’ve always heard of the expression…with the practice…meaning…that a field is…essentially…allowed to take a break…the premise being…that…repeatedly planting crops in the same spot…depletes the soil of valuable nutrients…which…decreases productivity…
However…knowing…Bertha…I figured there was more to it than that…so…I did what I do best…I…Googled it…of course since it was a farm question…I probably could have just called Mama…but…she wasn’t at home…so…Google…it was…
Anyway…seems there is a bit more to it…than…just not planting a crop for a year or so…as I had remembered…it also involves…continuing to toil the field…and maintain it…not…just…giving it a break…for a time…but actively replenishing it…
Of course…then…Bertha…related it to my life…reminding me…that…it’s not just important for me to…take time off…from my busy routine…it’s important…to…actually do the things that…replenish…me…when I do…
Now…that she’s explained it in these terms…I have to say…spending time in my contemplation chair…lying fallow…which by some accounts…could be considered…lazy…is truly…my most productive time of day…
Jane
I love what you wrote Jane….I can’t even imagine lying fallow…but I know it is necessary for my sanity and growth….also for that little eye twitch thing I have been having in my right eye…I know that is natures way of telling me….”SLOW DOWN GIRL.” I am a slow learner but I will contemplate the thought and maybe even join you in that chair!!!!!
Awww…I would love for you to join me in the contemplation chair…of course…I have a feeling we’d spend a lot of time…chatting…but…that would be just fine as well. 😉
