Mama always told me…treat others the way you want to be treated…
Yesterday…I got an example…of what not to do…I was presenting to a group of teachers…who had been in meetings all morning…it was almost lunchtime…they were tired…they were hungry…they were chatty…they were inattentive…
In fact…they reminded me a lot of their students…I wanted to send them out in the hall…not an option…but I finally did have to…call them down…not my finest moment…I might add…
I must admit…I fumed after the meeting…how dare they act like that…how could they expect their students to behave when they couldn’t…didn’t they know the Golden Rule…
Valid points…I might add…but…Bertha…being…Bertha…wasn’t so interested in the behavior of others…for some reason…she’s only interested in mine…so she totally turned it around…
Seems as though…Bertha’s…rule goes more like this…treat yourself the way you want others to treat you…
Then…she so poignantly pointed out…recent times when I hadn’t been listening to myself…when I’d ignored her…when I didn’t treat myself with total respect…
Hmmm…that brought chills…literally…as I recalled those times…
She summed her case up with…how can I expect others to respect me…if I don’t respect myself…
Okay…so I spent some time on the…naughty bench…hoping someone with a paddle wouldn’t walk by…thankfully they didn’t…

A classic lesson about respect. You are so smart Jane xx
Thanks, Christy…I’m usually still learning!
