Spread the love
Weather in the south is changingā¦for the cooler…and although I havenāt run the air conditioner for a few weeksā¦last night was the first night that it was actually cool enough to sleep without fans.
Noā¦Iām not talking about adoring well-wishers standing around my bedside cheering me on to a good nightās sleepā¦Bertha is laughing at that ideaā¦sheās putting on her old cheerleader uniformā¦just for funā¦but I digressā¦
Itās just that Iām one of those people who happens to be hot in bedā¦thatāsā¦hotā¦notā¦HOTā¦think flashesā¦not flashingā¦
I can see that you are going to make this difficult for meā¦geezā¦
Anywayā¦I can leave the thermostat on 80 during a summer dayā¦but at nightā¦Iād love it to be about 68ā¦so rather than freeze the entire houseā¦and give a nice bonus to the electric company employeesā¦I sleep with two fansā¦one on the ceiling and one on the bedside tableā¦
So last nightā¦when the house was already at perfect sleeping temperatureā¦the first thing I noticed was how quiet it was in the roomā¦I could hear the neighborsā dogs barkingā¦I could hear the ice dumpingā¦I could hear the house settlingā¦I could hear what I hoped was Bertha in the closetā¦trying on shoesā¦
It actually took a little longer than usual to fall asleepā¦soā¦I just lay there and listenedā¦and heard nothingā¦and heard somethingā¦and heard nothing againā¦at first the dogs were annoyingā¦and thenā¦they were just part of the night musicā¦music that I havenāt listened to for a whileā¦music lulling me to sleepā¦
Bertha says itās like lifeā¦it isnāt necessary to blur the sounds of my heartā¦even if they are annoying at firstā¦just listen as they make their own songsā¦
And to quote one of my all-time favorite booksā¦The Adventures of Stanley Kaneā¦how nice said the pigā¦
