For some reason there were several pictures circulating on Facebook this weekend…of…cooking utensils from days gone by…they would have a caption saying something like…click ‘like’ if you remember this…‘share’ if you ever used it…

Well…except that I didn’t want to totally clog up the feed and possibly make Facebook explode…I should have shared them all…but the kicker was…of course I remember it…I used it this morning

When I got married in 1976…a Corningware set was a great gift…and most brides got a couple of them…I’m sure I did…because for years I had not only the original Cornflower Blue…but also Spice O’ Life…inspired by the golds and avocado greens of the day…in efforts to down-size…I kept the Cornflower Blue…it’s now called…Vintage

Being a new bride…it was somewhat requisite to attend…Tupperware Parties…or at least order from the book that was being passed around at work…and…yes…36 years later…several of those pieces are still in use…measuring cups and spoons in those seventies colors…a red plate to take my lunch to school…a few odd sized storage containers…think pasta and cereal…and…finally…a salt shaker…it having lost its mate to a tragic accident involving a hot stove several years back

Now…all of this made me think…I got my flatware…used daily…when I graduated from high school in 1972…along with some basic avocado green Club Aluminum cookware…which I still have but rarely use…a copper clad Revere Ware cookware set came along as a wedding gift…and I still use it to this day…don’t think I will ever wear it out…

So…is my kitchen totally stuck in the seventies…no…not at all…I’ve added to my collection over the years…as need demanded…but…I never felt the need to replace my old faithful’s…they worked…I knew I could depend on them…maybe they relied on me as well…if inanimate objects do that…I’m not sure…but…there is something comforting about…picking up the same pot…that I’ve picked up for 36 years…and sitting it on a new stove…that just feels like home…
