Yesterday…I cast the first stone…that sounds a bit biblical…and torturous…so let me explain…
Last weekend I was talking with a friend and the topic of weight came up…as we were talking…she mentioned that weight could also be measured in stones…well…Bertha…took off with this concept…of course…she’d figure out a way to relate it to my life…
Let’s backtrack a bit…about five years ago…I changed my eating habits…started exercising…and…I lost a good deal of weight…but…three years ago…life happened…and my old emotional eating habits resurfaced…along with most of the weight I had lost…about two months ago…the switch flipped again…putting me back on the straight and narrow…
Now…I can’t tell you exactly what that switch was…if I could…I’d bottle it and sell it…and never have to work again…
Anyway…for over two months…I’ve been losing weight…and feeling good about it…so…Bertha…took the concept of pounds equating to stones…and made…a ritual…a game…for me…
I took a pretty little bowl…and filled it with one river rock for each pound I wanted to lose…now…every time I lose a pound…I get to…release…a stone…and the emotions that helped to create it…
I have a dry creek in the back yard…so it’s very easy to do…just go on the deck…consciously release the pound and the emotions…and toss into the myriad of other little stones…
Yesterday…I went from just above a certain pound…to below it…which was really cool…and the first stone found its way to the creek…it felt wonderful to symbolically release the pound in that way…
Okay…one down…and several more to go…maybe I should work on my pitching arm…
Jane
PS…a stone is actually equivalent to 14 pounds…but I did mine…as one little stone representing a pound…kind of like life in dog years…
Over here in the UK, we use a stone as an actual (old-fashioned) weight, it equates to 14 pounds (or lbs), so in order to release a stone, we would have to lose 14 lbs.
Thankfully now I use metric so my current weight instead of being 163.9lbs (11.7 stone) is in fact only 73.6 kilos – although thats way too much for my height, so I think I really need to be taller!
Good luck with your stone-shedding xx
Thanks for your well wishes…isn’t it wild…three ways to calculate weight…it’s enough to make a girl not weigh at all…LOL! Just had the thought…all this stone and pound stuff…gives new meaning to the phrase…rocks in your pocket…or maybe that’s where it came from to start with!
Sorry Jane, only just read your p.s. 🙁 doh
LOL…I loved the first message…I agree…we should just be taller!
