I just spent some time…this morning…playing on youtube.com…checking out some music videos from…the…day…when I came across a somewhat recent one…of James Taylor…as a real grown-up…sixty-something…with very little hair…singing one of my all-time favorite songs…You’ve Got a Friend

It immediately takes me back…I’m seventeen…my boyfriend just gave me my very first cassette tape…Mud Slide Slim…by a long-haired…hippy looking…Sweet Baby James…I didn’t have my own player at the time…they were just coming out…so like a soda with two straws…we shared his…I’d keep it for a couple of days…and then he would…You’ve Got a Friend…was our song…life was good…

My…how times have changed…that ill-fated tape became twisted and gnarled so many years ago…that I don’t even recall its demise…like so many things from my youth…including that budding romance…

Bertha…points out…that regardless of how much hair James has today…how many pounds I’ve gained or wrinkles I’ve found…how many years have come and gone…with their ups and downs…the music is still as sweet…the melody…still takes me back…and the words still warm my heart…

Maybe getting older is alright…as long as I can still listen to the music of my youth…and…yes…of course…I do have it on iTunes…life is good…
