Getting Prepared…

It’s a beautiful Saturday morning…and…Bertha…is chomping at the bit…hmmm…I have to wonder…is she chomping at the bit…because she is such an old…nag

Okay…now she’s threatening me…to get on with the blog…before she shows me what a…nag…she can really be…

So…what has her so excited this morning…well…it’s the first truly beautiful spring day we’ve had…that I’ve been home…and…it’s perfect for a bike ride…

We haven’t been on one in a while…so I have to admit…I’m excited as well…I’m hopeful that my gym workouts are going to translate into strong riding legs…it will be fun to find out if they are actually making a difference…

But…Bertha…reminds me…before I can ride…there are things that need to be done…locate the water bottles from last summer…pack a snack…put on those lovely padded shorts and a brightly visible shirt…and…last but not least…pump up the tires that are essentially flat from sitting in the garage for months…tire pumping being the most challenging of my preparations…but…a great triceps workout

Of course…she relates this preparation to my life…this morning…it is to my writing in particular…as she reminds me…that there is preparation to be done…before my next book will be released…ahhh…she’s talking about…edits…that’s what I’m waiting on…edits from the publisher…

Maybe this means that they are coming soon…I hope so…although…I must admit…the editing process can be painful for me…my words are like my babies…and having them critiqued…cutting some of them out…rearranging them…can become a very personal process…but…it’s one that always makes a better book…so…bring on the edits…

But…not until after this bike ride…

The Never Ending Journey…

The first rough draft of Bertha’s Sequel is coming out of the printer…and…although I know it has a long way to go…with much editing and many rewrites…I feel good about it…I feel good about the direction that it took…and the direction that I am taking in my life…we have both definitely grown since I started it seven years ago…

Bertha…says…it’s not how long the journey is…it’s what I learn along the way…that matters…and…she reminds me that there really isn’t a set destination…because…as soon as I get to where I thought I wanted to be…I want to be somewhere else…

I had to think about that one for a bit…it made me seem wishy-washy…but…she helped me to understand…that to continue to grow and evolve is the natural state of being…

That’s why…years ago…I wanted to write one book…but…once it was written…another one was…slowly…bubbling up…and…even now…I’m thinking…what is the next book going to be about…what journeys will I take in order to write it…who will I be when it is finished…

Bertha…did have one last piece of advice…since life is a journey…of many thousand steps…I’d best keep a great pedicure…

Let the polishing begin…
