Inside Out…

Hello…my name is Jane…and…I am…an…introvert

I do great in a one-on-one situation…but kind of freeze up in a crowd…becoming self-conscious…tongue tied…even when I’m with the same people that I would be comfortable with…in a smaller setting…

I remember…Mama…telling me when I was a young…that she was always loneliest in a crowd…and…this little nut…fell close to that tree…

My daughter once gave me a working distinction…between…an introvert and an extrovert…she said that…the difference was truly in how a person…recharges…that…extroverts need to be with people to recharge…they need…activity…while….introverts need to recharge alone…they need…contemplation…

That explanation…made so much sense to me…helped me to understand why as young wife and mother…even though I was very happy…I would sometimes…pine…for my college apartment…wishing I still had it…and could go there a couple of hours a day…

This morning…I was pondering…how…can I be an introvert…if my primary love language…is…Quality Time…doesn’t that mean…I need to be with people…

Thankfully…Bertha….was happy to relate the two for me…she said…that…not only do…I require quality time with others…to thrive…I also require quality time alone…in order to recharge…she say that…it is the balance between the two…that I need to maintain…

Hmmm…something to contemplate…as…I recharge…

Love in Any Language…

Bertha…has been talking to me about love a lot this year…you may remember her earlier challenge that I send love to everyone…even the people that I don’t know…and especially the people that I don’t like…and lately…she’s been nudging me towards…considering…romance…

So…it shouldn’t have come as a surprise to me…when she kept hinting that I read…Gary Chapman’sThe 5 Love Languages

Now…some of you may wonder…how does…Bertha…hint about such things…well…she is sneaky…I’ll read about it in a blog…someone will casually mention it in conversation…I’ll see a billboard…it will just come at me from several seemingly unconnected sources…all at the same time…until…I realize…I might as well give in…because…she isn’t going to…

Last week I read…The Five Love Languages for Singles…same languages…different take on them…and they aren’t all romantic…it touched on relationships with…co-workers…friends…children…really…anyone that you come in contact with…

There are obviously five languages…hence the name…they are…acts of service…words of affirmation…gifts…physical touch…quality time…everyone has one that is prominent…although we respond to all of them in some way…

I was very contemplative the whole time I read the book…as I discovered that…quality time…was my language…and…things began to make sense…jobs that I hated and didn’t know exactly why…had infringed on my time…friends…and I use that term loosely to include a lot of different types of people…who made me crazy because they could never find time for me…so many things…

So now as I explore relationships in my life…I wish it were simple…I wish I could just ask everyone…hey…what’s your love language…or…maybe they could wear a sign that would tell me…then I’d know what to do…how to treat them…

Bertha…says actually they do…but it’s in fine print…I have to be very observant to see it…

So…if you see me squinting…don’t be concerned about my vision…I’m just trying to determine how to love you better…
