This morning…I sat and savored my coffee…without checking email…without reading a book…without writing a blog…I just sat in the contemplation chair…and…enjoyed my cuppa…
I hate to admit it…but…that’s a rare occasion for me…the ultimate multitasker…I usually…think…I have too much to do…to just sit and sip the coffee…
So…it is with many of my daily activities…including eating…done…while my mind is in a whirlwind of activity…usually…about something totally unrelated…
There is however…one event that is guaranteed to get my full attention…the first tomato sandwich of the summer…
Now…I have a sneaking suspicion that this is primarily…a Southern delicacy…so…if you’ve never tried one…you have my sympathy…and heartfelt recommendation…that you rectify that situation immediately…but…I digress…
Anyway…our local tomatoes…AKA…Mama’s garden…aren’t in yet…but the Farmer’s Market had gotten some from LA…that’s right…Lower Alabama…and…not being a patient soul…hence the aforementioned multitasking…I took a chance…
I was not disappointed…
They were sweet…they were juicy…maybe not as juicy and ripe as Mama’s will be…but then…nothing is ever as good as Mama’s…we all know that…
So…I slathered a slice of fresh loaf bread…with mayo…added thick slices of tomato…sprinkled with salt…and…I was in heaven…
Oh…there will be plenty of tomato sandwiches this summer…there always are…but…there’s something about the first one…after several months of doing without…store bought tomatoes just won’t do…that gets my full attention and sends my taste buds dancing with the fireflies of my youth…

Ain’t nutin’ better than the Summer’s first mater’ sandwich (said in my best Southern/Hillbilly voice). You forgot to add the black pepper…and cheese…and onion….whatttt? Hey, it keeps the Summer colds away, and ah…dates, come to think of it. Hmm…
Georgia…you are too funny! But…you know…that’s truly the beauty of a tomato sandwich…it’s a blank canvas that you can personalize anyway you want to. Have a great day today…
