Spread the love

Okay… so Bertha has some rules for living in a tiny house… and many of them apply to any house… so feel free to read on even if you have more than 400 square feet of living space…

If you get something new… you have to let go of something… you know… hard as it is… I pretty much live by this one… I have a par level of sorts for things like clothes and shoes… so… new sweater in… old sweater out… Bertha does cry when we have to let the shoes go… but that’s another blog…

If you don’t love it… don’t bring it home… this goes along with the first rule… do I love this trinket enough to pass something on… and often it comes down to… what do I love most… because I love them both… so I do keep one pair of big girl panties… for making difficult decisions…

If you haven’t used it in six months… let it go… now this doesn’t apply to seasonal things… but in general… this is also good for those things you don’t use but think you just can’t get rid of… box them up… if you don’t miss them in six months… donate them… another trick is to take pictures of things before you let them go…

If you get it out… put it up… things get cluttered very quickly in a small space… and… sometimes… you look at that empty space and think you can buy something else to put there… which brings you to what will you give up…

If you pass gas… everyone smells it… in other words… be considerate… when sharing a small space with others…

Try something for a while before you decide it can’t work… I have to admit that I have been guilty of thinking I had found the perfect solution… taken the tags off… used it a couple of days… then passed it on… and got a different perfect solution… Bertha says if I’d given it more time I might have adjusted and saved some money…

Donate… Donate… Donate… or sell… or give to a friend… just try to keep your discards out of the landfill… when at all possible…

Surround yourself with things you really love… this one sort of sums up and overlaps with several of the other ones… but when you love everything around you… you have less need to buy more… and you just love the space you are in…
