I’ve been blogging for well over a year now…and I kind of enjoy looking back and seeing what I blogged about last year at the same time…interestingly…I find that the same themes show up at certain times of the year…regardless of the year…of course…Bertha…has her theories about that…but…that is a whole ‘nother blog…
Anyway…about this time last year…I did a post…True Confessions of a Middle-Aged Blogger…about disclosing something that you probably didn’t know about me…unless you were my Mama…and…you were the one who whipped me for stealing the belt when I was two…but…for some reason…I didn’t continue the thread…Bertha…said…today was the day…
So here we go…
I hate beets…there…I’ve said it…I know hate is a strong word…and if I reserve it for things I honestly hate…beets would be on the top of the list…I remember in grade school…I had a teacher who insisted that we clean our plate in the lunchroom everyday…and made that part of our Health grade…one day Mama came to have lunch with me…which was a rare treat in and of itself…but this day…we were having beets…and…she happened to like beets…so she ate mine…and those of a couple of the kids at the table with us…then…she stuffed several more servings into her milk carton…Mama was definitely the hero of the day…and we all got a good grade on lunch…
There was a time…probably between the ages of eleven and fourteen…that I was obsessed with the author Frank Yerby…he wrote what was considered to be trashy books back then…my favorite one was…A Woman Called Fancy…I reread it every summer…while thinking I was quite grownup…I just checked…I can get a used copy from Amazon…might just have to do that…I’m sure it isn’t trashy at all compared to the books of today…
Hmmm…my favorite all time movie…It’s a Wonderful Life…I love the message in it…how important each individual life is…and how much difference each of us makes…I’ve even written a chapter in my upcoming sequel…Becoming Bertha…about it…
My Daddy used to call me June Bug…because I was born on May 30th…almost June…thankfully it wasn’t a nickname that followed me around all my life…but it’s sweet to remember it…and I always think of him when I see June Bug written anywhere…
I have a sweet tooth…and…have almost never met a desert that I didn’t like…however…my all-time favorite is still…birthday cake (white with white icing) and vanilla ice cream…not sure why…but it’s my comfort food…when I’m really upset…it’s what I want…I’m sure…Bertha…will have me blogging about that in the future…but not today…
I’ve had a fairly ordinary life…I didn’t have an imaginary friend as a child…although…now there is…Bertha…I believe in aliens and ghosts…but have never seen either of them…of course…I’ve never seen…Bertha…either…and just try telling her that she isn’t real…
Speaking of imaginary…Pepper…was the cat in Bertha-Size Your Life!…she was just as haughty as she appeared in the book…and…I loved her…unfortunately…she crossed the rainbow bridge a few years back…and I haven’t gotten another pet…I did keep her in Becoming Bertha…I figured if I had an imaginary friend…I could have an imaginary cat as well…hey…it works…and no litter box to clean…
I started 2013…reading…Healthy Cheats by Skinny Chef Jennifer Iserloh…and being healthy…and at a healthy weight…is my top priority for the year…
So…now…you know a lot more about me than you’ve ever thought you needed to know…but…that’s where you’re wrong…in the not too distant future…all of this useless information…might just come in handy…who knows…
Jane
PS…Jane means…God is Gracious…how cool is that…
I hated beets (assuming they are what we call beetroot here in UK, a turnip shaped red object?) as a child, until I grew some myself in the garden, and ate one freshly picked, it was gorgeous, and now I love them. I didn’t have an imaginary friend, but I did have imaginary twin siblings, older than me (Susan and Tommy) and they were always doing horrid things that I got the blame for!
Joy…I am quite sure they are one and the same…glad you cultivated a taste for them…unfortunately…they still taste like dirt to me. I love your twins…and believe that they did all those things…I really do! Thanks for sharing…love the comments!
Great blog June bug! I love learning the little things about my friends, those are what make up the larger part of who as person is.
I do like beets, but only if they are pickled. LOL
No fair, Tamy…that name wasn’t supposed to stick! It is fun to find out obscure things about the people we ‘think’ we know…so what do you want to tell us about you? LOL!
Okay…that’s two for beets…and…one against…
How interesting that certain themes show up in your posts at certain times… like our memories of times never really escape us and affect our emotions. Sending hugs!
I definitely believe that is true, Christy. I’m working on releasing the things that seem to continue to trigger me…but…some of thing are pretty sticky. 🙂
Hello Jane,
I’ll call you Jane, thank you! I wish Mama had known what that name meant. Her middle name was Jane, so she named my twin sister Jane. Guess what she named me? Jane! She got our first names from the Bible. Maybe she knows now what Jane means.
I love pickled beets! It takes that wild root taste out.
Perhaps your Daddy called you June Bug because he didn’t want to call you May Day! :o)
Mary…I did tell you that I was a Mary Jane…just like you! Maybe that’s why we’re such kindred spirits. I love that you and your twin sister are both Janes…that is pretty cool.
Okay…3 for beets…1 against…I’m outnumbered…but I’ll still hide mine in a milk carton…if I had one…I don’t drink milk, either!
