Spread the love
Iām enjoying revisiting some of my old writing. Thatās the thing about writing from your heartā¦it always speaks to youā¦even years later. So, I thought Iād share a bit of an older piece I wroteā¦with Berthaās new twist. That girl does love to ātwist and shoutāā¦what can I say!
So many elephantsā¦elephants in the roomā¦everyone knowsā¦nobody speaksā¦look the other wayā¦pretendā¦ignoreā¦denyā¦lieā¦hideā¦harbor⦠lonelyā¦sadā¦scaredā¦bigā¦elephantā¦
Why wonāt we talk about the elephant in the roomā¦it takes up so much spaceā¦there isnāt room to sit downā¦and it stinksā¦besides itās just so ridiculousā¦one of us should just sayā¦āthereās an elephant in hereāā¦but nobody speaksā¦not even the elephantā¦it just sits and eatsā¦and gets largerā¦until there is no room for usā¦and we both go out different windowsā¦scared and aloneā¦and somehow the elephant follows both of us⦠even as we go our separate waysā¦
But this is writingā¦I can make it go any way I chooseā¦
Thereās an elephant in the middle of the roomā¦I donāt know how it got thereā¦I didnāt invite itā¦did youā¦I didnāt think soā¦what do you think it wantsā¦why is it hereā¦why donāt you ask itā¦hey elephantā¦whatās upā¦not muchā¦Iām just taking a breakā¦needed a place to sit for a spellā¦do you know any gamesā¦no we donāt play gamesā¦thatās no fun says the elephant as it walks out the doorā¦
Obviously, I wrote this about a relationshipā¦and itās true for any relationshipā¦but hereās Berthaās twistā¦
It only takes two to have an elephant impasseā¦thatās rightā¦you (me) and the elephant. You knowā¦those things we choose to play Scarlett aboutā¦refusing to think about until tomorrow. Things likeā¦you knowā¦I think Iāll let you make your own listā¦just rememberā¦whatever it isā¦the more we ignore itā¦the more it growsā¦
Wellā¦seems I have some thinkingā¦and cooking to doā¦anyone for elephant stew?

So true, the more we ignore it, the more it grows.
That has definitely been my experience, Edie!
Those elephants sure do make it hard to see anything else that's going on, too. I like them best in the wild pulling up trees. They do a lot less damage there I think.
I'm hoping that mine will be spending more time in the wilds and less time in my living room…that's for sure!
