There’s something about water…that soothes me…I know…scientists say that it is the positive effect of negative ions…and…I accept that…I somewhat understand it…but…it had that effect on me…long before I’d heard of the theories…
As a child…we used to camp out at the river…I fondly remember waking in what seemed to be the middle of the night…to the sound of waves coming onto the shore…the tide coming in…lulling me back to sleep…
As a young adult…I was fortunate to spend several vacations at the beach…and…although I thought it was just from getting away for a few days…I always came home…refreshed…renewed…after sitting for hours on the balcony…watching and listening to the waves…
I remember my first cruise several years ago…I had some rather important issues that had been troubling me…always a journaler…I carried pen and paper…ready to figure out where my life needed to go…
Instead…I spent three days…mesmerized by the water…all I wanted to do was sit on the deck…looking at that indescribable shade of the deep blue sea…port-a-calls…were a nuisance…just let me sit and watch the sea…
Needless to say…I returned home…refreshed…renewed…but…without a clue what I wanted to do with my life…although…shortly after that…mysteriously…I figured it all out…maybe it was the water after all…
Last week I had the privilege of spending a few days at the beach…and…once again…found solace in the waves…
At home…I have a bubbling rock…not quite the same…but…the sound of the water…does bring a peace of its own…sitting in its presence…rocking…dreaming…contemplating…
Now if I can just get that feeling while washing dishes…
Jane
Oh the beach, how nice! I am glad you had a good time there and feel refreshed now. What a nice post!
Thank you Christy…we did have a lovely time…now…back to work!
You know, Jane…water soothes me too. I even like to wash dishes. There is something soothing about the simple act of placing my hands in warm water and cleaning the dishes after I have enjoyed a good meal, then tidying up the kitchen using the warm water from the sink to wipe off the counters that gives me a feeling of accomplishment. Maybe it’s a control issue…I don’t know! But for a while after doing that I feel all is right with the world.
“Chop wood, carry water.”

Peggy…I love that image…and what a wonderful perspective…it fits right in with today’s post…as soon as I get it written…it’s still rumbling in my brain…I once knew a woman who prayed for her family members as she ironed their clothes…making the routine task become spiritual…to me…that’s what life is all about…thanks for sharing!
The beach….. it’s been so long….. way too long….. Glad you were able to go and enjoy!
It was a lovely trip…now a fond memory…ready for another…we need a girls’ weekend getaway!
